Fandango, the nation's leading movie ticketing destination, announced today that it sold nearly 18% of all tickets for "The Twilight Saga: New Moon", which took in a projected domestic weekend box office of $140.7 million*. "New Moon" is an unstoppable force on Fandango. Among the records broken by the film:
Top Advance Ticket-Seller of All Time: "New Moon" broke Fandango's advance ticket sales record, roughly five days before its release date, on Saturday night, November 14, 2009.
Top Daily Sales for 2009: "New Moon" topped Fandango's 2009 daily sales record on Friday, November 20. As of Friday afternoon, it was selling more than 14 tickets per second during peak periods.
Top Percentage of Tickets Sold for Opening Weekend: Fandango's dramatic ticket sales for "New Moon" represented the company's largest share of the opening weekend box office for a feature film in wide release.
The top five Fandango percentages for wide releases are:
"New Moon" (2009) - 18%
"Sex and the City" (2008) - 16%
"Twilight" (2008) - 15%
"Michael Jackson's This Is It' (2009) - 15%
"The Dark Knight" (2008)- 13%
